Dwayne Johnson on His Future Advising DC Following ‘Black Adam’ and Why He Is ‘Optimistic’ About a Potential Role Marvel Crossover
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, stated that the studio is searching for DC’s equivalent to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, whose leadership shaped the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dwayne Johnson, star of “Black Adam,” could be the person in charge of DC Films.
When Variety asked Johnson if he would be able to wear the mask on the red carpet at the Times Square premiere of “Black Adam,” the actor took a long swig of water before stating that he is prepared to search for the right person for the job.
“The best position I could hold for DC would be as a consultant, where I could be of assistance. I love DC. It’s in my blood,” Johnson told Jordan Moreau of Variety. “In the spirit of having grown up in the DC Universe. I’m here to assist in any way I can, including the search for and identification of the ideal leader or leaders.”
Johnson also mentioned his extensive personal history with DC Comics, which dates back to his childhood, in his response.
“As a young boy, I adored the Super Friends, particularly Superman,” Johnson said. “When I first encountered a Black Adam comic, I was captivated. His features were intense. His skin was brown and he was cool, unique, and intimidating. Consequently, I immediately related to him. I am a true Washingtonian.”
While “Black Adam” places Dwayne Johnson’s antihero alongside Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate and Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, the actor’s vision for which superheroes could appear alongside his character extends far beyond his upcoming film and even the DC universe. In response to a question about the possibility of a DC-Marvel crossover event, Johnson stated that it would be a simple matter of satisfying fan demand.
“Well, I’m an eternal optimist. I would hope that we would observe this. My philosophy is that anything is possible. Let’s begin with the desired outcome. “And if the end goal is to have a crossover that is engaging, intelligent, and cool for the fans,” Johnson said. “Let’s get a thermometer if they want to see something similar. And if they do, then we should create it. I run my businesses in this manner. I firmly believe that anything is possible. With the right people and place, and the right leadership having the right conversations, anything is possible.”
On October 21, “Black Adam” will premiere in theaters.
